Musicals!!
Musicals, in terms of films, are films that utilize music in order to carry a story along.
Typically, musical films are based off of musical theater shows that have been adapted to be on the big screen! This is great for the marketing team because they are able to tell the audience that they can experience some of their favorite Broadway shows on the silver screen! It'll also be great for the audience because they will feel more a part of the production, especially when it will allow them to sing their favorite songs.
One great example of a musical would be "Mamma Mia!"
"Mamma Mia!" follows the story of 20-year-old Sophie, who is engaged to Sky, and is to be married to him the day after her three possible fathers show up for the wedding. In the production, many known songs, from the band "ABBA", are used to tell this story. Not only were the songs used from the original Broadway production, they are songs that people were familiar with, giving the audience a sense of nostalgia, familiarity, and connection with the show.
Another great example of a musical film would be "Dear Evan Hansen."
"Dear Evan Hansen" is one of the most popular Broadway musicals to date, in fact, it is Tony award winning. The songs are very relatable to this generation, and really give insight into what many teenagers are feeling and going through, especially nowadays.
