For the past two weeks, my group and I have been working on a music marketing project. Essentially, we were given a song, had to shoot a music video for it, create a case study on two different production companies, and create a presentation in which we would showcase how we would market this new artist and their song. We were given the song "Cmon Talk" originally by Bernhoft, however, we changed the title to be "C'Mon Talk" by a fictional artist, Charlie Jay. I think this was of the most fun parts of the project, because we got to create a character, and off of that, build a brand off of this fictional artist. What I found to be really ironic was that Joseph, one of my group members, was hoping to not be in the video, however he ended up being the face of our brand, and star in the video; his face was the main part of our logo, which I used on all of our social media sites.
When we first started brainstorming, we had a Word document, then created a group chat, and lastly also created a Google Doc, but I think we relied more heavily on our story boards over anything else, which were drawn by Vicky. We decided to do a storytelling video because the first 45 seconds of the song repeated the verses "C'mon and talk to me/I will try the upmost try to be honest with you/Try to be honest with you//Every single//Work/Imma gonna talk to me/I will try the upmost try to be rhythmical/Try to be rhythmical". With this repetition, we decided to tell the story of what inspired the writing of a song. Basically, a couple fights, and they break up, and the song is about the guy trying to get his girl back. She doesn't want him back though, and that's what we portrayed in our video.
Shooting the video was fun, but had its difficulties. For example, my family doesn't have a car, so if we wanted to film somewhere outside of school, it would have been hard for me to get there, and with COVID, my parents wouldn't have been comfortable with me getting a ride from one of my other group members. However, we figured it out. We focused our video in school, and any other shots that were needed would be shot individually by the person. I believe that Joseph shot a few clips of his car, for example.
Now that we finished shooting the video, all we have to do is finish up our presentation and edit the video!
